Mark Stratford’s goals earned a valuable victory for his side Cliftonites in their game against close rivals The Youngsters in the Clifton 6 a side league this week. With both team’s level on points and occupying two of the bottom three places, a win was vital for both teams as they looked to climb up the table. It proved to be an entertaining game with plenty of chances for each team but it was Stratford’s cool finishing that ensured Cliftonites gained a 8-3 win as they make up ground on the teams above them.
Elsewhere second met third as Sporting Lesbo went up against Brooks Villa who they lead in the table on goal difference. With both teams eager to claim a victory and keep hot on the heels of league leaders Class on Grass there was plenty to play for. However with little to separate the two sides over the course of the game, a 2-2 draw seemed like the fair result. Brook’s defender Jason Kirk’s performance earned him the man of the match award after a fine display in this game and time will tell whether this was a point gained or a point lost for both sides.
