ALDERCAR LEISURE LEAGUES: 5 a side Football Round Up

Thursday 21 June 2012
The top of the Aldercar 5 a side league remains unchanged after this weeks round of fixtures saw the top five teams all pick up maximum points from their games. Performance of the night saw JMT power their way through FC Eastwood to claim an impressive 10-1 victory. Despite missing a couple a key players Eastwood will be disappointed they didn’t add to their single strike whilst also struggling to keep pace with the JMT front line. Josh Catterns though continues to impress for Eastwood and gave another mature display in this game.
Curtis Clarke fired in an early contender for goal of the season with a sublime volley as his team, The Firm, secured a 4-2 victory over The Youngsters and Old Guy. Trailing 3-2 as the game entered the closing stages, The Youngsters will be disappointed they didn’t come away with a point as they searched for an equaliser. The Firm though, with Clarke continually causing problems grabbed a late strike to seal the victory.
Heanor Lions remain in top spot after a 5-2 victory over a much improved Red Army side this week. As clashes go it couldn’t have been much tougher for Red Army in what was a top versus bottom clash. Red Army though produced one of their best performances of the season so far, troubling the Heanor side on more than one occasion. Chris Heard however was a constant thorn in Red Army’s side producing another dazzling display to keep Heanor a point clear at the top of the table.
Stuart Newton ensured Langley Milan kept up the pressure on Heanor as he helped his team to a deserved 7-2 win against Soup-A-Stars, whilst in the final game of the evening, STW Double D and Mack Lads played out an entertaining game. Boasting seven straight wins before this game, STW’s form had seen them climb to second place in the table and they gave another indication of their title credentials with a 6-3 victory in this game. Mack Lads star Gavin Clarke received the man of the match after giving a solid performance but he was unable to stop STW’s impressive run continue.
