Hello and welcome to the official team page of the Hydrollamas, who are now the second oldest team remaining in the division having been established in November 2009. The name was suggested by captain and founder member Thomas Oram-Reubens who thought his idea wouldn't be taken seriously, what a fool! The team was set up to be a team to represent Sir Thomas Picton School Sixth Form and although this principle has generally stuck to, slight expansion has happened in the search for progress. Anyway, enough of that, time to discuss the players :-
Robin Ellis - Gk
Robin is the team's goalkeeper and has offered a solid foundation on which to build. Having joined the team in June 2010 as a replacement for initial goalkeeper Daniel Griffiths, Robin has established himself as an important squad member with a number of excellent performances and superb saves. As th youngest member of the team, we hope Robin and his ped will be involved for years to come. Plays like: Pepe Reina Supports: Reading Idol(s): His cats Chardonnay and Splodge
Elliot Griffiths - Def
Elliot is a natural born defender who thrives under pressure and never shirks a tackle. His commitment to the cause can never be questioned and his forays forward can expose frailties in the opposition team. He is a loyal Camrose servant, having climbed through the ranks to now be a stalwart defender in the first team. The kind of player who just loves to defend, Elliot is an invaluable asset even in this free-flowing, attacking style of play constituted by six a side. He provides the side with important sense of stability and although his Camrose commitments limit his availability, he makes a noticeable difference to the side when he can be included. Plays like: Brick Wall Supports: Cambridge United Idol: Carol Ann Duffy
Jamie Condon - Def
Jamie is a talented player who has gained plenty of experience by coming through the junior ranks, first at Haverfordwest before moving to Clarbeston Road. He is the sort of defender who loves getting stuck in and is infamous within junior circles for his incredible goal scoring record, or rather lack of it. Despite having played for approximately ten years on a regular basis, Jamie is yet to score in a competitive fixture. Having said that, he has saved plenty with vital interventions and his positioning and reading of the game is excellent. Also capable of marauding runs forward, he is a useful asset to the team when his work commitments allow. Plays like: Gary Neville Supports: Liverpool Idol: Martin Kelly
Kern Cunningham - Def/Mid/St
Kern is one of the most versatile players, capable of playing anywhere on the pitch. However, he has now become an attacking defender who likes to run the ball from the back, draw men and create space for others. His work rate is good enough to accommodate this sort of play as his passion for football is undoubtedly substantial and this is often demonstrated in his vocalness. Entertaining and frustrating in equal measure, Kern is a welcome member of the side who offers something different. Plays like: Phillip Lahm Supports: Whoever he's playing for Idol: Himself
Beau Mogford - Def/Mid
Beau joined at the beginning of the team's second full season in the division in June 2010, making an imediate and continued impact. He has adapted to six a side from eleven a side with ease in a way in which few others have. He is a goalscoring defender who likes to get forward at every opportunity, but only when others are covering at the back. He has developed a knack of being in the right place at the right time and that is a likely consequence of his lengthy career with first Camrose and now Clarbeston Road. Beau is enjoying the fast paced nature of six a side football and hopefully he will remain involved for a long time to come. Plays like: Joleon Lescott Supports: West Ham Idol: Paolo Di Canio
Stuart Doig - Mid/St
Stuart is one of the players who played in the first Hydrollamas game and has just gone from strength to strength. Has worked hard to improve on his all round game, developing his movement, spacial awareness and passing in order to become a creative and also evasive midfielder. His physicality has been developed through playing for Clarbeston Road and this regular training has helped hugely in his development. He has become an important part of our attacking play and it is hoped that he will continue with the rate of improvement that he has displayed. Plays like: Mesut Ozil Supports: Liverpool Idol: Hollie Welch
Connor Punyer - Mid
Connor is another of the newer additions to the squad, having joined in August 2010. He initially played a number of games for the team covering for others but his performances stood out enough to push his way into the team on a full time basis. Connor's strongest asset is his pace but he also uses it in a clever way, running directly at defenders to create space for others to flourish in. In this way, he offers a different method of attacking to the other midfield players and this versatility is important. He allows the team to break forward at pace without losing structure and he has certainly played a role in the team's steady progression. His reliability is also good for the manager to be able to call upon and he is combining his new found six a side game with the eleven a side game he continues to hone at Clarbeston Road. Will hopefully continue to develop, making positives contributions to every fixture he plays in. Plays like: Ashley Young Supports: Blackpool Idol: Charlie Adam
James Williams - Mid/St
James is another who can call upon masses of experience having come through the youth system at Clarbeston Road and now being an important member of their second team and on the fringes of the first. He has managed to integrate what he does as a target man for them with being an inventive midfield player for Hydrollamas. He still holds the ball up but can pivot on a coin to leave his man for dead. He is the team's leading goalscoring midfielder, which is a testament to his ability to pick up intelligent positions in the final third and also to the power that he can get behind his shots. However, as well as being a goalscorer, his build up and support play is hugely important. Has had many excellent seasons, and it is sincerely hoped that he continues to be a pivotal part of the team's forward play and restrains himself from kicking the ball over the fence into the woods (which he seems to be quite a specialist at!) Plays like: Dimitar Berbatov Supports: South Korea Idol: Park Ji-Sung
Thomas Oram-Reubens - St/Mid
Tom scores on a consistent basis and is capable of sticking the ball in the back of the net with either foot. This makes him dangerous from any angle and therefore, a constant threat. Tom's main strength is his ability to slide in behind the last man so that even a half decent through ball will put him clean through on goal. Also has excellent touch and so rarely squanders an opportunity to strike an effort. An important founder member of the side, it was just that he should win the first 'Player of the Season' award for his significant contribution towards our positive initial season. He won this award for a number of outstanding performances in various positions, such is his versatility, but it is upfront that he really showcases his true ability. A well respected, integral part of the side, it cannot be doubted that Tom will continue to remain committed to the cause and lead the team forward. Plays like: Diego Forlan Supports: Atletico Madrid Idol: The creator of Starcraft 2
Ben Williams - St
Ben is the newest member of our side having transferred from his previous club C Preece Utd in January 2011. As well as adding depth to our striking options he has also helped us add versatility to our tactical play with his ability to hold the ball up as well as running directly at defences. What cannot be questioned is his track record as a proven goal scorer, as he has scored goals consistently in the past and the power he can generate strikes fear into the hearts of all goalkeepers in the league. Unlike many of the other players in the side, he has not played since a young age. However, he is now putting the natural ability he has to good use playing for West Dragons. As a previous winner of the league with C Preece Utd it is hoped that he will enhance the team's winning mentality whilst adding steel and bite so that the team can continue to progress in the future. Plays like: Didier Drogba Supports: Manchester United Idol(s): Good passers in midfield
Daniel Griffiths - Co-Manager
Daniel became Hydrollamas co-manager in December 2010 and his relaxed style and approachable manner made him an obvious candidate for the role. Having been a prominent founder member of the team and an excellent shot stopping goalkeeper in the team's first full season in the league, he has a comprehensive knowledge of six a side tactics and the attributes needed to be successful in a smaller sided format. His passion for football is undoubted and it is this which has brought him back involved with the team after a brief absence. The main thing which sets Daniel apart from other managers is his laidback attitude which allows his players to use flair and guile as they feed off his understated confidence. However, this is always done with an underlying element of control which means he can instill determination as well as creativity. There is a strong mutual respect between him and the players because of his likeable nature and this only serves to develop belief within a strong unit and he is undoubtedly the right man to assist in taking Hydrollamas forward for the foreseeable future. Manages like: Harry Redknapp Supports: Swansea City Idol: Alan Tate
