Lesaux march on in Abbey Meads six a side

In another night of frantic action in the Leisure Leagues Swindon Sunday six a side from Abbey Meads Primary School, Penhill managed to open a small but significant lead at the top of the Premier Division. Meanwhile in Division 1 it looks to be a two horse race between Lesaux Solid Crew and The Lads after Lesaux came through a tricky fixture to beat GREEN STAR.

The night started with a tricky match for Goal Goal Power Rangers as they took on a much improved Old'em Pathetic. They managed to come through it just with a 5-4 win after battling hard to find space in between the resolute and well organised defence Old'em put up. Particularly impressive was Simon. His energy and willingness to take the ball in difficult positions before playing out kept Old'em in the game at points when they were under significant pressure. They were unlucky in the end not to get something from the game.

Game 2 was a points match between Penhill and Leavemyarsealona. When ever these two teams come together, even when it is just a friendly you can guarantee that you will two things: get plenty of goals and heap of action. So it proved once again with Alan, Penhill's stand in goal keeper, called upon to produce several world class saves. The man really doesn't know the meaning of the word friendly! Even with Alan in unbelievable form Leavemyarsealona still managed to put seven past him which just reinforces the quality they possess. However, on this occassion it wasnt enough. For such a long time Penhill's bogey team was Leavemyarsealona but not any more. They have now beaten them 2 times out of three, although both of those victories have come in points matches. The real test will come when these two meet in the final game of the season on the 15th December.

Game three in the Premier Division was an absolutely outstanding game between Boca, who are aiming for their first league title and Toit Nups who would surely have been in contention had they joined the league at the start of the season. The game finished in a 4-4 draw but once again captain of Toit Nups Nich Craft was singled out for praise. His contribution to his team's cause was phenomenal. He was untouchable and moved through Boca's defence with poise and grace. Even though he has only played a handful of games surely he has to be a contender for Most Valuable Player come the end of the season.

In Division 1, the pace of the football on show was no less intense. Their were only two games in this division as Puyol turned up half an hour late and Pique were unable to get a team together. However the other two games more than made up for these absences with The Lads and Ajx putting on a great display of attacking football. The game ended 9-5 in favour of the Lads who march on and now sit top of the league table courtesy of goal difference. Tom Regan was quality according to one observer and really made the difference between the two sides.

In the final game of the night Lesaux laid down a marker by beating GREE STAR in another close game. It was an important victory for the boys in green as it keeps up the momentum they have built up over recent weeks but more importantly keeps them in touch with The Lads who they play in two weeks time. The outcome of that game will no doubt decide who will come out on top in the Division 1 title race.
