Coronavirus + all games are on

LEISURE LEAGUES AND CORONAVIRUS!

A number of captains have expressed concerns about Coronavirus and the impact it may have on the leagues that you play in. Especially in light of the Premier League and EFL’s decision to cancel matches until early April.

It is important to remember that the key reason that the Premier League are cancelling matches is not because of the players themselves, but because of the close proximity that spectators are, in large numbers, watching the matches.

It is also worth remembering that the intention for stopping events is to protect the most vulnerable people in society, which as the over 70s, and people with underlying health conditions.

This does not apply to our leagues. We do not have older people playing in our leagues and we do not have spectators.

It is also worth bearing in mind that the Government’s action is intended to spread the inevitable coronavirus rate across the public over a longer period of time, and not necessarily to stop large numbers of people from being infected, which the Government themselves accept may happen. This is because it is also important for society and people to develop an immunity to coronavirus, if it returns in future seasons, in order to ease the burden on the NHS.

So for the time being we are operating a business as usual approach. However, we are monitoring the situation all the time and if anything changes we will let you know.

Thanks,
