Merry Christmas from Leisure Leagues Calne
The new season got underway in the Leisure Leagues Calne Tuesday six a side from Beversbrook Sports Facility with old teams and new doing battle to ensure they start the season in the best possible way. All teams showed good footballing skills and gave an indication that the season promises to be closer and more competitive than ever.
Game 1 saw reigning champions Fitness Box get off to the best possible start by beating RichTeaWellens comfortably 3-0. Last season they blew away the competition with their attacking talent and this game gave every indication that they would try to do the same again.
The most competitive game of the night saw TMT and Dads go head to head. Last season these two teams ran Fitness close and were disappointed to just come up short. This time out its clear that both teams will be going all out to go one better and claim the Leisure Leagues trophy. On this occasion 4-1 probably flattered TMT a little but nonetheless it’s a great start to the season for the guys in red.
The performance of the night cane in match 3 as Netsix and Chill dominated bottom of the league Holo FC 5-1 to take the early lead in championship. They did the same last season before trailing off in the second half of the season so will need to hope they can sustain their title challenger for the whole campaign to try get in among the medals.
In the final game new boys CALNE Veterans FC were welcomed to the league by The Rushes. Both teams played the football around nicely and created good chances but ultimately it was the Rushes who were slightly more ruthless in front of goal. Dean looked back to his best and claimed the only goal of the game. If Rushes are going to sustain a title challenge keeping him for will be essential.
With the new season underway we now break for two weeks before reconvening on the 7th January.
