Football Returns!

The government roadmap out of lockdown entered phase two yesterday (Monday 29th March), which heralded the return of organised sports, including small sided football.

Leisure Leagues wasted no time getting back into the swing, with the Beverley 6 a side league at Bishop Burton College seeing all 12 teams across both divisions in action.

In the Premier League, table toppers and defending champions Gylfi Pleasures were given a big scare by Beverley La Coruna and needed a last minute equaliser to salvage a point from the game. The La Coruna lads were playing only their second game having debuted in the last match before lockdown and showed they are a much better side than the record they inherited, leading twice in a rollercoaster of a match. With three games remaining they are cut adrift at the bottom, but don't rule out this team staying up.

Elsewhere the division was shaken up by two results that saw the league table condensed. Firstly Maradona Kebab defeating Stud Utd 2-0 to give their survival hopes a huge boost and The Studs - who are more used to challenging for titles - will be looking nervously over their shoulder now with three games remaining.

Get The Sudocrem roared back from 2-0 down to beat Inter Peroni 3-2 thanks to a stunning hat trick from Harvey in a result that moved them into second, and now leaves the four teams directly below Gylfi Pleasures, who realistically only need one win in their last three games to retain the title owing to their superior goal difference, separated by just 2 points. Below them Beverley La Coruna are showing their fight and these five teams could still finish in virtually any order.

In Division One DST Leconfield have the champagne on ice after making it 7 wins from 7 with a 3-1 win over Expected Toulouse, and now need just one point from their final three games to mathematically secure promotion. It would however require an extraordinary turn of events including a massive goal difference swing to deny them, and the guys from DST can look forward to playing Premier League football next season.

Elsewhere, The Academy kept their promotion charge going with a 3-1 win over Dyslexia Untied and are in a very strong position to go up with DST.

Have A Day Off may however still have a say, and kept themselves in the promotion scrap with a hard fought 2-1 win over SD7 FC who with a couple of debutants in the team showed some fight ahead of next season.

A huge game looming on the horizon between The Academy and Have A Day Off could yet prove crucial.
