Thursday 11th November 2021 - League Report

The Solent and University of Southampton Thursday 6-a-side league at Cantell School

In the opening set of matches, ‘Gylfi Pleasures’ took on ‘Mayflower FC B’, while ‘OE 6s’ played ‘Stem K Dons’.  Both games started well, each team fairly well matched by their opponents.  Swift and direct football saw ’OE 6s’ and ‘Stem K Dons’ trade early goals and set the precedent for the rest of the match – ‘OE 6s’ ran out 4:2 winners, while ‘Gylfi Pleasures’ took a lot of joy from their 3:1 victory.  Secondly, ‘Rodallega Bombs’ faced off against a hybrid ‘OE 6s’ and ‘Stem K Dons’ side after their original opponents failed to show, and the two previously opposing teams helpfully coalesced to provide stiff competition.

Ultimately, the coalition was unable to withstand the free-flowing philosophy of the ‘Rodallega Bombs’, honourably succumbing 7:2.  ‘Mayflower FC A’ and ‘Lads on Toure’ played out the first goalless draw in what feels like years, and league newcomers ‘Black Swans’ performed well on their first game back since last season to outscore ‘I Kante Fit My Willian’ 7:4.

Lastly and arguably the pick of the rounds, ‘5 in the Pink’ took ‘Almastone FC’ to the cleaners, wiping the floor with their opponents 6:0, in what is starting to become just another day at the office.  ‘AFC Shirley’ maintained their 100% start to the season with a grafting 5:3 win over ‘Bussoc’, the ever-entertaining ‘Saka Potatoes’ were unfortunate to finish on the losing side of a 5:4 match with a depleted and borrowed ‘Stannmorre Stores’ team.
