Thursday 29th April 2021 League Report

The Solent and University of Southampton Thursday 6-a-side league at Cantell School

The night’s matches began with ‘Aston Birra’ vs ‘Don’t Touch Matip’ and ‘5 in the Pink, 1 in the Stink’ against ‘Punani Palace FC’.  Despite leading almost immediately, ‘Aston Birra’ let the game slip, finishing 3:1 in a close match with ‘Don’t Touch Matip’.  After a sensational display last week, ‘5 in the Pink, 1 in the Stink’ were under pressure to perform again.  They did not disappoint.  In an impressive performance filled with superb solo goals, excellent technique, hard work, and a good measure of showboating thrown in for luck, they thrashed their opponent 11:2.  They are by far the best team in the league, with better players in every single position, and would be hard to find a team to give them a run for their money!

Secondly, ‘ISOC FC’, filling in for ‘Pathetic Athletic!’, beat ‘Mayflower FC B’ in a classic encounter – leading 4:2, with 15 minutes to go, ‘Mayflower FC B’, succumbed to pressure to allow ‘ISOC FC’ to complete the comeback and win 5:4.  In the other kick-off, ‘Choomah FC’ played ‘Stem K Dons’ in what can only be described as a lower-tier match.  Despite this, both teams’ many substitutes voraciously roared their respective teams on, with the loudest cheer coming when ‘Choomah FC’ broke the deadlock 10 minutes from the end.  However, ‘Stem K Dons’ kept plugging and, as with most of the previous matches, completed the comeback late to win 2:1.

The final round of matches saw ‘SNS’ lose 11:3 to a dominant ‘I Kante Fit My Willian’ and ‘Culture FC’ beat ‘Levant FC’ 5:2.  Both games were full of clinical finishes!
