After an incredible interlude of four and a half months, 6-a-side football finally returned to Falmouth Sports Centre. Several of the teams made up of students were not on hand to finish what they had started. But such is the popularity of Leisure Leagues in West Cornwall that there were enough teams waiting for a place in the league to fill the places.
In the Premier division, Champions elect, ATHLETES FEET found worthy opponents in debutants SCRABBLED LEGS. 0 - 0 was the final score.
There were wins for CHAMPAGNE SUPER ROVERS over FAL PAULO VETERANS, and EXETER GENTLY over RUSTY & THE SPEGETTI BOYS. 4 - 1 and 3 - 1 the scores respectively. Although beaten by the reigning champions, the Spegetti Boys 'put in a shift' and worked hard to make for an intriguing match. MoM award to their 'keeper Josh Hendy reflects the work they put in!
Although it is early days yet, I have a hunch that all of our new teams are strengthen the competition in our league at Falmouth.
With the withdrawal of FOULMOUTH and the non -appearance of one other team, there was a "Points match" between RAPID VIENETTA and CBK. Both teams are awarded a 5-0 win in their respective Leagues.
Two of our new teams fought out the first match proper in League 1 - an all South American Derby between BOCA SENIORS and JAKE MINERS CLUB DE FUTBOL. This time, the Seniors got the win by 5 - 0.
With a 5 - 0 win for KIMBERLEY PARK ROVERS over 'newbies' FALMINGOS and a 4 - 1 win for HAPPY MONDAYS over CHIP IT!, it is a straight sprint between the top two for the title. with just one point separating the Rovers from the Mondays.
... And the two play each other in the last match of the season!!
Could we ask for a more exciting end to the Longest Season Ever than this?
