Exeter come out on top in Gangsters clash

In what was probably the most important night so far in the Leisure Leagues Royal Wootton Bassett Monday six a side from Gerard Buxton Sports Ground as the top two went head to head. We also received the welcome news that the league is back up to full capacity.

The first game of the night was unfortunately a points match after Norfolk failed to provide a team. This was a shame as the game between them and Athletic promised to be an absolute cracker. Nevertheless, Depays stepped up (thanks guys). The 5-0 win for Athletic meant that they stayed 4th, just behind Pique Blinders.

The second game of the night was a cracker for the watching spectators. In the end 2 Goals 1 Cup came out on top but it was not for want of trying from FC Guava. The game was end to end and every attack seemed to lead to a goal. 3-2 it finished which means 2 Goals now join Norfolk on ten points but they are still much further down the league table than they would like to be.

In game 3 Underdogs took on Alexandre LakofKet. It was fairly comfortable for LakofKet as they cruised to a 3-0 win. However, the game was notable for one of the goals of the season as Archie scored an absolute worldie. It is incredibly tight at the top of the table with 5 points separating The Unplayables in 6th who are one point behind Alexandre LakofKet and Gangsters in second.

Pique also took a points match victory in game 4 to keep up their unbeaten run since joining the league. Their impressive form has meant that they now sit third one point behind Gangsters. However, they now have some incredibly tough games coming up which will be a test of their credentials in the league and what they might be capable of achieving.

In the penultimate game of the night the miserable season for Who Ate All Depays continued. This time they fell victim to The Unplayable’s who fielding their strongest possible team. It showed with the quality of their finishing as they eventually romped to a dominant 6-1 victory. If Unplayable’s can get some consistency in their performances then they will hope that over the second half of the season they can mount a challenge and take on the teams above them.

Finally then the big one. Gangsters V Exeter Gently. The game promised so much as prior to the game only one point separated the two sides. However, the occasion seemed to get to the two sides. Nervous of losing meant that both tended to sit back stick to their shape. Neither over committed and the game looked destined to head towards a draw. The second

half began and Gangsters began to apply the pressure. They needed the win more than Exeter and started to throw caution to the wind. However they couldn’t find a way last Ben in goal for Exeter. And then Exeter broke. Jay found himself in on goal and he showed great composure to find the bottom corner of the net. The win was a great result for Exeter who now move three points clear at the top of the table. There is still plenty of time for Gangsters to turn it around but the result certainly felt decisive.

As things stand the league is once again full. However, this league is easily one of the most exciting in the SWINDON area so make sure you get involved with the best provider of six a side football in the world by signing your team up fast!
