Gangsters tame Gerard Buxton six a side league

On a wet and windy night in the Royal Wootton Bassett Monday six a side from Gerard Buxton Sports Ground some teams thrived in the difficult conditions while others struggled. The outcome was some interesting results that have thrown the league wide open. 

In the first game of the night FC Guava took on Athletic Bilbao Baggins who knew a positive result was needed to get their season back on track. It was a much tighter game than people were expecting and FC Guava had some excellent chances to get a point right at the end. While they might be disappointed with the result, they will be pleased with the manner of the performance. On the other hand, Athletic will know that they need to play better to beat the big hitters in the league and achieve their ambitions of lifting the league trophy. 

In the other early kick off the leagues surprise package so far this season, the Unplayable’s took in Norfolk N’Chance who are yet to hit the heights expected of them. Unplayable’s were totally in control of the game from the first whistle as they played out of their skin. They coped with the conditions better than their opponents and were good value for their 3-1 victory. For Unplayable’s 2 wins from 3 means they are right in the hint at the top of the table. For Norfolk N’Chance the sooner they can get their first choice squad back the better. When this happens no doubt they will start to climb the league table. 

The next round of kick offs saw Gangsters Allardyce take on new boys Alexandre LacOfKet and The Plough face off against Who Ate All Depays. Alexandre LacOfKet were talking up their chances before the game but it was Gangsters who completely dominated the game and showed that they were back to their best with a 5-0 win. It’s clear that the loss of their trophy last season really affected them but they have come back this season determined to prove a point to the rest of the league. For Alexandre LacOfKet it is a reality check that the league is not going to be a walk in the park after all. 

For Who Ate All Depays, who started the season as favourites it was a disappointing night as they drew 1-1 with The Plough. However, this was the Plough from the Thursday league at Swindon Academy. They were hard hitting and in their opponents face from the outset. Depays normally rely on being the more physical team and dominating their opponents from start to finish. Without this edge over the opponents they struggled to get into their flow and consequently created very few chances. The Plough can hopefully use the confidence from this result to discover their best form and take positive steps to climb the league table. 

The final games of the night saw a local derby between between The Underdogs and 2 Goals 1 Cup. With the weather easing off both teams were able to get the ball down and play football. However, in this context it was always going to be 2 Goals 1 Cup that would come out on top. They were able to pass the ball around nicely and open up the space in behind The Underdogs defensive line. 4-1 represented a decent score line but in reality it could have been more. 

The final game of the night was between last seasons big rivals Exeter Gently and Bailey’s Boys. Both teams were missing key players and undoubtedly this had an impact on the quality of the game we were treated to. Just like last season it was Bailey’s who had the lion share of the possession but Exeter countered well. Their goal game from Chandler who took on three players before slotting home. Baileys had chances to win but Dan in goal produced an excellent performance to keep the scores level. The result keeps the league wide open. More than half the league can look at the table and think they have a reasonable chance of winning the league. Only time will see if they are proved right.
