League opens up at Gerard Buxton

It was another great night of action at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground as teams went all out to position themselves for the second half of the season.

Last night saw a shock as Silence of the Lahms recorded their first loss of the season after failing to score against Gangsters Allardyce. It was a tight game typical of a top of the table clash and both teams were unwilling to give anything away. It looked as if it was heading for a nil nil draw when Vice-captain Pete Leppan stepped up as key players so often do on the big occasion. Taking the ball down superbly from a throw in, he then smashed home to score the games only goal.

MOM: Pete Leppan

There was a grudge match between local rivals 2 Goals 1 Cup and Bass Rugby with both teams made up of players from the same year group at school. It was an intriguing match up as the discipline and team work of Bass came up against the individual talent of Callum Flay and Raisham Mudhar playing for 2 Goals. And it was that talent that shone through as 2 Goals were able to run out comfortable winners.

MOM: Callum Flay

Match 3 saw a dominant performance from Wirral as they ran out 5-0 winners against Expected Toulouse. It was always going to be intriguing to see how this team would manage without their injured talisman Robbie Stubbs but perhaps he was actually holding them back as the team were let of the reigns to go and attack. It will be interesting to see what sort of challenge this team can mount on the top of the table once their key players come back from injury.

MOM: Jack Hunter

The final game saw a close match up between Sloblins and Hardley Athletic. Hardly have been on a good run recently and this continued with them running out comfortable winners against the team that are yet to get off of the mark this season. They might be too far back to have a chance of winning the title but playing like this it is not too hard to see them having an impact on who does.

MOM: Dan Clarke

Thanks for another great night. I look forward to seeing you all again next week!!!
