Shock as a Baileys neaten by Depays in Bassett six a side

In a shock night of six a side football in the Leisure Leagues Royal Wootton Bassett Monday six a side Who Ate All Depays upset the order of things to beat Baileys Boys to move within two points of the top spot. What two weeks to go there is still a chance that they could claim the trophy and have a chance of winning a £12K holiday

In game 1 of the night Athletic Bilbao Baggins and 2 Goals 1 Cup the played a hugely entertaining and high scoring game that would eventually ended up as a 4-4 draw. The draw ensures both teams stay comfortably mid table and level on points.

In the other early game Gangster Allardyce impressively saw off The Plough to win 6-1. Gangsters will be wondering where the form of recent weeks was earlier in the season and what they might have achieved this season. The Plough can hold their heads up high, when they joined the league they were beaten 11-0 by Gangsters and so this game represents a clear indication of how far this team has come since then. They were also floundering near the bottom of the table but have steadily climbed back up since then to now sit 8th level on points with Unplayable’s above them.

The next game saw a bottom of the table clash between FC Guava and Sloblins which finished 4-2 to Guava. The victory for Guava ensures that Sloblins will once again finish bottom of the table and claim the wooden spoon prize.  Next week it doesn't get any easier either as they face Exeter Gently who will no doubt be back to their best now that their title aspirations have been reignited.

The reason for this is all because of the fact that Bailey's Boys slipped up against the form team at the moment Who Ate All Depays. They have claimed more points than anyone in the second half of the season and are own a winning streak that stretches back further than Jasons waistline (joke!). As ever it was the big man in goal that made the difference with some truly world class saves that kept Bailey's at bay long enough for them to be hit on the break by a quick counter. With the win Who Ate All Depays are now just one win off the top spot but face two tricky games in the final two weeks that they will have to come through to stand any chance of winning the top prize.

The other top three team Exeter Gently managed to secure a comfortable win against The Underdogs with a 5-0 win showing that they are somewhere near getting back to their best. They were bolstered by the return of Ryan Baker after his lengthy spell out with injury and the confidence that this will give the team moving forward cannot be understated. The game at times got lively between the two sides as The Underdogs fielded several new faces ahead of the new season but at the end of the game shook hands like true professionals.

The final game of the night was a drab 1-1 draw between Bass Rugby making their return to the league after a week off and The Unplayables who, according to their captain Justin, did not perform at their best. The result was probably a fair one but both sides will feel as though they could and should have done more with the chances they had to put the game out of reach. The Unplayables are in a rebuilding process whereas Bass are looking to end their time with Leisure Leagues on a high so both will be looking for strong ends to the season.
