Silence of the Lahms take command at Gerard Buxton!

It was another close night in the Swindon Monday league at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground in Royal Wootton Bassett with most games coming down to a single goal to decide the result.

It was clear from the outset that tonight's fixtures were going to be tight and competitive when the first game between two evenly matched teams ended in a stalemate. 2 goals 1 Cup might have had the lion share of the chances but they struggled to make any of them count. Expected Toulouse were happy to let them have the ball and then were devastating on the counter and that was how Tom Lawrence's goal came about. Breaking down the right flank the ball was crossed into Tom on the edge of the area who took a touch to compose himself before firing into the bottom left corner. Keeper Will Jeary, who has been in fine form of late was able to get a hand to it but the power in the shot gave him little chance. 2 Goals 1 Cup were only able to get back into the match after a late penalty was awarded for a box violation that Rasham Mudhar was able to slot calmly into the corner of the goal, thus maintaining their unbeaten start to the season.

MOM: Tom Lawrence

The second game was an example of exhibition football. Both teams worked hard to play out from the back and showcase their skills. Gangsters at times though were guilty of overplaying in the final third and squandered plenty of good opportunities to open the scoring. This might have cost them if it wasn't for the outstanding goalkeeping display from Gangsters stand in goal keeper who kept out a number of one on ones from Bass Rugby's front line. In the end though Gangsters weight of pressure told and a silky finish from Ryan Wallace after a cross from Pete Leppan made the difference in this game.

The third game looked destined to go down as a nil nil. Both teams had chances and Wirral were left frustrated that they were unable to capitalise on their chances. To add insult to injury (literally) they lost another man with a suspected ankle ligament injury. Scans today will reveal how long he could be out for. Leisure Leagues wishes him a speedy recovery and hopes he will be back out on the pitch soon. As far as the game was concerned however, Hardley played a much more adventurous style of football with captain Dan Clarke playing in a far more advanced position down the left hand side. This gave Hardly the composure they had been lacking in front of goal in recent weeks to make their chances count. They did this with a well timed finish that was the crucial moment in this encounter.

The final game saw league leaders Silence of the Lahms take on bottom of the table Sloblins who were boosted by their returning captain Harry Walduck and he gave the resilience that they had lacked in previous weeks. However, they were not able to stop the onward march of Silence of the Lahms who maintain their 100% record. George Staten continued his rich vein of form making this five goals in four games. Other goals were scored by Alexander Quant who scored his first goal of the campaign with a well placed penalty and Joe Morley who ventured up from defence to score after a well worked set piece that had clearly been practised in training.
