Tidy Box make important step in Swindon Monday six a side

It was an intense night in the Leisure Leagues Swindon Monday six a side from Kingsdown School as the top two went head to head and local rivals Swinn and Oxford United did battle in a closely fought and competitive match.

Game 1 was the game that everyone had been looking forward to since the start of the season. Both Tidy Box and Ooo Thiago Silva had been tied on points going into this game and so fireworks were always expected. However, it was Ooo Thiago Silva who grabbed and early lead thanks to an excellent long ranged effort from captain Jamie Johnson. Tidy Box seemed to struggle with the physicality of Thiago Silva and before too long a second was added after Max Bailey got in behind Tidy's back line to tuck away a fine cross field pass from man of the match Rich. With five minutes to go Thiago seemed to be cruising towards a comfortable win and a place at the top of the table until a sin bin for dissent completely changed the dynamic of the game. Tidy Box scored almost immediately before adding a second before the sin bin ran out. With the sides level and time ticking away Thiago Silva looked desperate to hang on to what they had but they could not contain the onslaught that came their way. With what was practically the last kick of the game the winning goal was scored and Tidy Box claimed the most unlikely of wins. The victory gives them a two point advantage heading into the second half of the season.

The other game of the night was an intense local derby between Swinn, who are all die hard supporters of Swindon Town and Oxford United. The rivalry of these two clubs meant that this game was always going to be competitive but even more so because some of Oxford United's players used to play for Swinn. The game was tight for long periods and in the end only decided by a solitary goal. This came from Swinn captain Connor Carpenter. He picked up the ball in the wide right position before beating a couple of defenders for pace. He then checked inside and on his weaker left foot curled an excellent shot right into the top corner of the net. It was an excellent finish and the one bit of real quality in a game where chances were few and far between. The win moves Swinn above Oxford United in the table and gives them a genuine shot at toppling Bumfica for third.
