Super Sam in Swindon six a side

Swindon Thursday March report

It was another amazing night of six a side action in the Swindon Thursday six a side football league at Swindon Academy. Every team was in attendance and a great night was had by all. There were some tight games but The Lads once again went on a bit of a rampage to show why they are still the team to beat in the league.

Game one saw 1980s Legends have one of their best ever performances by beating Exeter Gently 6-2 with the goals coming from Michael Gibbs, Paul Bartram and Pete Richmonds.

In Game 2, The Lads buoyed by finally getting their hands on the Leisure Leagues trophy that they won back in March steamrolled over new team Paralympiakos. They eventually won 8-1. Once again it was star man Sam who put on a show by netting four of the goals. The question now is can anyone stop them going all season unbeaten.

The third game was probably the most competitive of the night. Eventually Wellensball came out on top 2-1. After the game Plough’s AJ had this to say about the game:

“Plough and Wellensball played an end to end match with both teams striking the woodwork and forcing several good saves from both keepers. Wellensball were leading 2-0 when AJ pulled back a late goal from an Ollie corner but there wasn’t enough time for an equaliser. A good competitive game that could’ve gone either way, hopefully showing that in the league the gap is quality is very tight.”

Game 4 saw Lean Team claim their second win in a row with a solid 3-1 win against Swindon Mental Health Squad. The win means that Lean Team currently sit second in the league only one point off of The Lads and unbeaten after three games.

In the final game of the night the newest team Wickes Champions had their first game in the league when they took on Spezial. After being heavily beaten by The Lads last week this was a great game for Spezial to regain some much needed confidence as they ran out 3-0 winners.

Thanks everyone for a great night of football. See you next week!
