Wellensball rack up the goals in 12 goal thriller

Swindon Thursday Match report

It was another great night of action in the Swindon Thursday six a side football league at Swindon Academy. There were some great games suggesting that this season promises to be closer than ever.

The opening game of the night was a close e counter between Paralympiakos FC and 1980s Legends. It could have gone either way but Legends just edged it winning 2-1. The victory takes them to tied second in the league.

The second game was far less close as The Lads took on bottom team Exeter Gently. The result was never in doubt but Exeter can take solace from the fact that they managed to do what many teams fail to do and score against the Lads. For the Lads it was another chance to stake a claim for the golden boot as they netted 11 on their way to victory. Goals came from Sam 5, Steven 3 and Dan 3.

The third game saw the return of the Lean Team as they took on the rapidly improving Wickes Champions. After settling into the league they secured their second win in a row to move into 6th place only two points off of second place in an intense midfield battle.

In the penultimate game the Plough returned to winning ways with a 6-2 win against Spezial FC. The Plough got a boost when they welcomed back Aj and Bestie and they linked up straight away with a lovely ball through from Best with Aj tucking it home. The second quickly followed from a quick AJ corner which was thumped in by Ollie. Some slick passing football from the whole team resulted in Aj’s second and the Plough’s third. Spezial had hope poking in a rebound just before halftime and quickly grabbing another after the restart to make it 3-2. However, Best and Aj linked up again with a pin point pass from Best finding Aj to restore The Plough’s 2 goal cushion. Plough turned the screw and Ryan added a fifth hitting in a fine finish before Podge rounded out the scoring finally being able to put the ball in the net.

Finally it was a difficult night for Swindon Mental Health Squad as they were overwhelmed by a very strong Wellensball. The final score was 12-0 which ensured SMHS stay just above the bottom and Wellensball move up to second place in goal difference.

Even though the season has started new teams can still sign up today. The league is currently full but new teams will join the waiting list and will be able to play as soon as a space becomes available. You can sign up on the website by following the link below.
