Abingdon Monday 5 a side match day results!

Thank you to all our teams at our Monday night 5 a side league at Tilsley Park last night, some amazingly close matches throughout the 3 divisions. Just 3 matches to go now until the end of the season!

It's been fascinating looking at the results and hearing from the refs this season as the Premier League title race keeps going. There were two huge games last night as Coopers Troopers took on Club Tropicana Drinks while Fruity Spartans faced Abingdons. The leaders Spartans came through against Abingdons but only just winning 4-3 to keep them top by 2 points. Coopers Troopers all but ended Club Tropicana's hopes with in a thriller winning 9-7 as they kept the pressure on Spartans. Second place Hadland had a more comfortable evening as they defeated SWXI 7-0. The other fixture in the division saw bottom side Sex, Drugs and Carlton Cole pick up a well deserved point against Hardly Athletic after a 2-2 draw. The top 4 play the bottom 4 next week so wins are expected but you just never know in the league.

The matches in Div 1 were so tight this week as the leaders Young Guard suffered their first defeat of the season going down 4-2 to second place FCUOB. Young Guard still hold a four point cushion over FCUOB so it looks like they will be ok but it was an important victory for FCUOB who hold onto second spot on goal difference. Third place Basically Barca played a guest side last night with Kante being away so picked up a points match win. In other matches Substandard Liege defeated Savills 4-3 while Cunning Stunts won by the same scoreline against new team The Sticky Bandits.

The promotion race in Div 2 was blown wide open last night as third place Ivory Toast beat leaders Unprotected Cesc 6-4 which allowed Abingdonnys to take over top spot after they secured a 6-2 win over Survey Monkeys. The gap between top and third is now down to just 3 points with 3 games to go so all to play for. In other results Norfolk N Chance won 4-1 against Tass while another guest side stepped in to play Expected Toulouse with 2 Girls 1 Schlupp being away giving Toulouse the points match win.

Thank you to all our teams, the season is turning out to be an exciting one in all 3 divisions. Also not forgetting a big thank you to our supervisor last night Dean who had to step in a ref as well along with are other refs Warren and Ian. There will be no league on Monday 3rd May due to the bank holiday so we will return on Monday 10th May.
