MATCH NIGHT REPORT - ROUND 14

The season is over! Tonight saw all teams in action for the final time in the winter season.

At 8pm we had 2 teams in action looking to seal 2nd position in the table. Firstly Biffta v Expected Toulouse. Biffta started the game well and showed their strength in forward positions with some great movement and finishing. Despite Toulouse being short on players they battled on through the cold wind and stayed in the game. But Biffta continued their fine form that has got them in this position and won the game comfortably in the end 5-2.

That win meant Inter needed at least a point in their game versus Range Rovers to guarantee 2nd place as long as Neil were victorious v Monico later in the night. It was an even start between the two sides but it was Rovers who took the lead and were ahead at HT. Then in the 2nd half Rovers scored a further goal to go 3-1 up and dampen Inter’s chance of 2nd position. Until the drama unfolded. After a night of sloppy finishing, Inter amazingly scored 2 goals in 11 swift seconds in the dying minutes to secure a 3-3 draw and 2nd place if Neil were to win at 9:20.

Before that we had another league match at 8:40 between Balotellitubbies and Benfleet. A tight game between two sides who have shown improvement in recent weeks ahead of the new campaign. After a great win last week Balo had amazing confidence and it showed with some fast paced football. Benfleet once again showed great composure in defence but lacked that finishing touch. After a tight game it was Balo who secured a narrow 2-1 win. 2 from 2 for them and puts them in great form ahead of the new season.

Then at 9:20 it was Monico v Neil FC. Neil arrived knowing the trophy was theirs at the end of the night. As it was presentation evening there were plenty of fans in attendance including star player Harry who sadly took a knock last week. Monico had a chance to steal 2nd position but had a light squad on a very cold night. Neil took advantage of this and secured a solid 2-0 win despite going down to 5 men in the final minutes. Another champions performance.

A result that means Inter secure 2nd place for the first time! Congratulations to them!

But tonight was about our champions Neil FC. These boys continue to hit new heights and go unbeaten again in their 4th consecutive title. Well done lads.

What a season it’s been! Plenty of ups and downs for all sides and some damn cold nights  in the process.

Next week sees the start of a brand new season with 4 brand new teams and a full league for the first time ever! The standard is ever improving and the competitiveness is without doubt the best we’ve ever had. I can’t wait for the new season and please make sure you are all ready for next weeks team pictures!!!
