New Season, New Teams, New News

Monday Night Football returned this week with a new season.

The League has extended to 8 teams and with the departure of Bareley Athletic, we welcomed 3 new teams.

We Arbeloa Lot of Teams returned for the new season looking to build on their defeat of the champions in the last week of the season.  They faced another tough match to open this season in 2 Girls 1 Schlupp, who finished second last time around.  It truly was a game of two halves with 2 Girls 1 Schlupp showing their intention early on in the game and in the season.  They bagged a hat trick in the first half, going into the break 3-0 up.

We Arbeloa had a good chat at the break and tightened things up in the second period of play and had some good chances, that they failed to capitalise on.  They remained firm at the back however and did't let anything through, so at the final whistle the result was We Arbeloa 0-3 2 Girls 1 Schlupp.

New Team Scholes Galore came to the park to face the Champions, Armitage Shanks, in their first run out.  There really was no telling which way this one would go.  It was a pure footballing battle, the new arrivals going ahead early and asking questions of Armitage shanks.  The Champions fought back and levelled the game in the second half, with both teams now looking to take the points.  Both teams pressed and asked questions of the goalkeepers with the clock ticking away, It was Scholes Galore that broke the deadlock with about 10 minutes to go. Armitage were not beaten yet though and pressed harder as the clock ticked down.  At the final whistle however, it was the new boys Scholes Galore that took the glory, and the points.

Next up, another of the new arrivals, No Cabbages, Just Worldies took to the green.  Although new to the Monday league, don't be fooled, No Cabbages are an experienced side having completed seasons in our Sunday League, they know their way around the pitch!

They faced Green Pete Elite, that have been growing in confidence throughout the last season and taking some decent results.  This new found confidence took a serious dent however, as No Cabbages romped home with a 10-1 win for their first outing on a Monday.

Finally, that last of the new teams came to the field, Man Chest Hair United faced off against La-Lla-Na Land.  This was another clash of epic proportions.  A scrappy match throughout with both teams eager to stamp some authority.  A lot of play in the middle of the park with neither team seemingly able to break through.  Man Chest Hair had their chances, a lot of them, but all going begging wide and high of the target.

Late on in the game however they found the net and slotted one home in the bottom corner.  Final result here 1-0 to Man Chest Hair United.

This is a season we are really looking forward to as the new teams find their feet. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN........
