Abingdon Wednesday 5 a side - BOTLEY WANDERERS CHAMPIONS

Our Abingdon Wednesday 5 a side Football League season concluded last night with Botley Wanderers crowned as premier league champions!

The exciting season rounded off at Tilsley Park with week 10 and we saw some thrilling matches play out, with plenty of goals, drama, and action.

In the Premier League division, Botley Wanderers and Ashburton Army were the first teams to take the field, with Botley narrowly edging out their opponents 6 - 5 in an intense, high-scoring match that confirmed Wanderers as league champions with 20 points. Alfredians took a 5 - 0 win from their game with FCUOB who were away, to keep their place in the top flight while The Mighty Ducks and Goring GOBs fought to a thrilling 4 - 4 draw. Goring finishing in the runners up spot while for the Ducks it's back to Division One alongside Ashburton Army. 

In Division 1, we had the tightest of all league finishes with Basically Barca and Botley's Finest locked on both points and goal difference following an incredible title race. Barca claim the trophy having scored more goals through the season but well done to both teams. Abingdons Finest put up a valiant effort against Botleys Finest this week but were ultimately defeated 3 - 1. wedding Cake had a 5 - 0 win from the absence of FC Proseshionals while Basically Barca recorded a 10 - 4 win over Slough Posse to give them just enough to win the division. 

Finally, in Division 2, the Ale Stars put on a strong showing against Maragonna, winning 4 - 2, while Outer Milan and Black and White FC played a nail-biter of a match, with Black and White ultimately emerging victorious 5 - 4. It wasn't enough to deny Outer Milan the title though and they go up as champions with a 3 point lead over their opponents who also seal promotion. In the final match of the night, Serious Heat and OGM FC battled it out in a high-scoring encounter, with OGM proving to be the better team on the night with a 12 - 8 win.

Overall, it was a fantastic night of football to conclude our season with all teams putting in impressive performances throughout. Congratulations to all the winning teams, we look forward to the start of our new season next Wednesday night.
