A Derbyshire 6-a-side football team were left in the pink this week as they took delivery of their prize from the June Giveaway. Dads Army Miners Welfare, who play in the Matlock league, were the winning side from the giveaway last month. Our team was on hand to give them some brand new kit.

The team from the town, led by Steven Murphy, won the league at Highfields School last time around. Although they have found the going a little trickier this time around, they did secure their fourth victory of the season.

The team admitted that the kit might have brought them luck, joking: “Yeah, we thought that the pink really shows the blue in our eyes! But we like it up here [Matlock] and appreciate the kit and like the league, what more can you say?”

The team have been in the league for a number of seasons, and they reckon they like the option of having a choice of entering the draw or taking the trophies. They explained: “It is nice from when you come here week in, week out, playing ten, eleven games and you can win something like this nice kit here, can’t moan really!”

The star prize in the giveaway – which is streamed on social media on the first Tuesday of every month – is a trip to Benidorm. It presents mixed feelings for the team, however, as they reason: “If we can win Benidorm that would be unreal!” before adding: “Though I don’t think we could come back!”

Currently, they sit five points off the lead, having won four and lost four of the first eight games this season. But with their new kit, the sky’s the limit!

The Prize Draw returns on 1st August at 7pm.
