LEAGUE SPOTLIGHT: TEWKESBURY MONDAY 6 A SIDE

“It’s gone from strength to strength since Leisure Leagues took over”. That’s the assessment of a long serving member of staff at the Tewkesbury 6 a side league.

Stewart Curtis, a referee at the competition, was ideally placed to make an assessment, having been on both sides of the fence, as it were, as he’d been a player too.

“Since Leisure Leagues took over the running of the league,” Stewart said, “there’s been consistency…and it’s brought a new dimension to Monday nights.”

Leisure Leagues cameras were out and about this past Monday as the first season since the world’s biggest 6 a side firm took over, and players in the league were excitedly explaining that it was “great to play a good bit of football with your mates.”

The title was won by 108.9, by the narrowest of margins – they edged out S60 FC by a point after an unbeaten first season, with the top three completed by Ahoi FC, who ended just two points off the top.

The winning teams were given trophies, which Adam Glover, the Area Manager for Tewkesbury said well deserved: “Absolutely,” Adam enthused. “We’ve been delighted with the way this league has gone since we took over – and we really look forward to going from strength to strength as we move forward, but things have got off to a brilliant start.”

Adam did say, though that it was great to see the difference in ages between the players and how the league has attracted a real cross section of players. Andy, from Tewkesbury Prawns – another team that had been in the league for years (pictured above) – echoed those sentiments, adding: “We’ve going for some time, but it’s great to the improvements.”
