BLACKPOOL ROCKS

It’s been quite a month for football in Blackpool. First, the hated Oyston family departed Bloomfield Road at long last and the fans returned in their numbers to watch The Tangerines’ Play-Off push.

Then on Sunday 17th March 2019, another momentous event could be marked on the calendar. As the first ever Leisure Leagues 5 a side kicked off.

The YMCA Thornton Health And Fitness Centre was the venue for the league that was definitely fun to play.

The young (and older) men and women had no need to feel down (sorry, that is the last one….) and the league kicked off with some brilliant action.

Top of the pile are Mamarsh Mill, who started with a magnificent 14-2 victory over Burgerdome.

Goals were on the menu elsewhere too, as Notsoathletic ran out tasty  11-3 victors against MaryJFC , with Toon Barmy coming in third as they saw off Murder On Zidanesfloor 13-6.

The final match was a real ding-dong seesaw affair too. 15 goals were shared in the end, but Wanyamas In Pyjamas eventually prevailed 8-7 against Bombay FC. Bombay did enough to show that they’ll be in the mix come the season end despite the reverse.

Teams are still being accepted into the league. For more information click on the link here: https://www.leisureleagues.net/league/ymca-thornton-health-fitness-centre/blackpool-sunday
