In an exciting turn of events, BT Sport and ITV star Peter Walton surprised players at the Tamworth 6-a-side league last week. The league, which has been running for years, attracts a wide mix of amateur players from across the region.

Peter Walton, who is best known for his work as a former Premier League referee and current pundit on BT Sport and ITV, arrived at the league unannounced to take part in a special session with the players. The surprise visit caused quite a stir among the players, many of whom were thrilled to meet the TV star.

During the evening, Peter shared some of his expert knowledge and tips with the players and officials, offering opinions on the weekends big talking points.

Speaking after the session, Area Manager Greg Allen said: “It was great to see so many talented players out here tonight with Peter. The Tamworth 6-a-side league is a fantastic opportunity for local players to get fit and enjoy some activity. I know Peter was really impressed by the level of talent on display, but also the facilities.”

The surprise visit was part of a wider initiative from Leisure Leagues to encourage more people to get involved in the sport. The Tamworth 6-a-side league is just one example of the many local leagues and thousands of players and referees, across the UK that are helping to keep football alive at a grassroots level.”

Greg added: “It was an amazing experience to have Peter Walton come down and spend time with our players and referees. He gave his time to many, and I think everyone who took part in the session came away delighted. It’s fantastic to have the support of Peter, and we hope to see him here again soon.”

The league at The Lamb is open to all players over 16, whether they have a team or not, as single player sign up’s are welcomed.
