MEET OLDHAM 6 A SIDE LEAGUE'S VERY OWN INVINCIBLES

Oldham’s Oasis Academy is an unlikely venue for a team of Invincibles, but Curry FC has completed an astonishing feat as they stormed to promotion.

The team, led by skipper Abdullah Muhammad (pictured above with the trophy), has matched and surpassed anything that Arsenal’s Invincibles of 2004 did, winning all 14 of their games. This is an accomplishment that even Arsene Wenger’s iconic side, which included the likes of Thierry Henry, Robert Pires, Freddie Ljungberg, Dennis Bergkamp, Ashley Cole, Gilberto Silva, Sol Campbell, and Patrick Vieira, didn’t manage to achieve.

What makes the story all the more remarkable is that prior to their dominance this time around, the players had never competed together as a team. Abdullah explained, “We’ve known each other for a decade or more. We were good mates at school, and we thought this would be a good way of staying together.” Their unity and camaraderie off the pitch translated into an unparalleled level of success on it.

Abdullah, who excelled as the team’s goalkeeper, was quick to highlight the contributions of two standout players. “Dhanish Sajjad and Connor Guilfoyle,” he emphasised, “have had stellar seasons with the team. ‘Danny’ has been brilliant; he’s our top scorer. Despite previously playing as a centre-back, he transitioned to the forward position this year and has been one of our best players. Meanwhile, Connor has been outstanding in defense, thwarting opposing attacks.”

Match Night Supervisor Justin Bebbington expressed his admiration for the Curry FC team, referring to them as “a good set of lads, with some great players.” Their combination of skill, determination, and camaraderie has undoubtedly played a significant role in their remarkable achievement.

The new season kicked off last night, and Curry FC defeated last season’s mid-table side Murder On Zidane’s Floor 4-3. However, Abdullah has even bigger aspirations: “We’ve played three seasons so far. We came third in our first one, then we achieved what we did last time, so let’s do it again, why not!?”
