TAUNTON 6ASIDE KICKS OFF WITH A FLURRY OF GOALS

The brand new community 6 a side football league in Taunton kicked off last night, and it was Whippage who put down an early marker.

Their 5-0 win against Wordsworth Hammers was perhaps the pick of the games, but there was plenty of superb football elsewhere too.

Storage Unit had a real ding-dong clash against Holway Spartans before winning 3-2..

Area Manager Stewart West admitted he was delighted with the kick off and added: “It’s great to welcome these teams to the Leisure Leagues family, and this is just the start. This league will going from strength to strength in the coming weeks.”

Stewart added that he was expecting to add another new division soon and thanked everyone at the Bishop Fox’s School for their help: “We view it very much as a partnership,” he said. “And that’s very much been the case here and things are so much better with that level of support.”

Teams will now be playing for a range of things, including a spot in the Leisure Leagues Weekly Prize Draw – which is incorporated into the Leisure Leagues Live TV Show, which is broadcast on social media every Tuesday at 7pm.

That is for the future though, next week is all about league points as Spartans take on Heads Relief, while bottom side Wordsworth Hammers will be looking to get off the mark.
