The record books are being scanned after a goal-filled week in the Solihull 6 a side league might well have produced the most goals in the 25-year history of the Monday night league. The Tudor Grange Leisure Centre League has been a hotbed of footballing talent and competition, with impressive performances from all teams.
The headline makers of the week were undoubtedly Pique Blinders, who crushed The Goon Boys 27-0, with Rollinson smashing in 11, Millard six, and Patterson a hat-trick. However, there’s a real race at the top of the table, with two teams locked together. Peas FC are currently top of the league on goal difference from Only Put FC, after easing out Four Lions 3-1, with goals from players including Josh Mussel and Rory Leek, while Only Put won 6-4 against The Dark Horses.
The skipper of Pique Blinders, Jamie O’Neill, is a tough taskmaster, however and wasn’t happy, declaring: “We were too complacent and should have had more!”
The excitement doesn’t stop there, as Puyolpants Down have already won promotion from division one, but three teams are separated by a point below them, with Buxton Troopers being beaten 5-2 by fellow promotion chasers Inter Row Z. Barmy Army also kept the pressure up by seeing off FC Badger 4-1.
Greg Allen, Area Manager of Leisure Leagues, praised the teams, saying, “It’s great to see so many teams competing and scoring goals in the Tudor Grange Leisure Centre League. Pique Blinders put on a fantastic display of attacking football, but it’s not just about the top teams. Every game is competitive and played in a great spirit.”
Allen also encouraged more teams and players to join the league, saying “We welcome players and teams of all levels and abilities to join us for the new season. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out, there’s a place for you in the Solihull 6 a side league.
