The incredible Leisure Leagues post lockdown expansion continues apace this weekend with one of our long standing competitions adding hundreds of new players as its new season kicks off.
The Sunday league at Curzon Ashton FC has always been one of the most popular in the North West and now the amount of teams clamouring for a spot in the league when sport was allowed again after lockdown, has meant the new season beginning with many, many more teams.
Area Manager, Adam Glover spoke of his delight at the expansion and was in no doubt about what it was down to: “People are desperate to get active again,” said Adam, “Even before lockdown ended we were getting calls from teams up and down the country who were asking us to accommodate them and we are absolutely delighted with the response.”
Now, the new season in the Curzon Ashton FC league will be bigger than ever as teams look to take the title off Ballerz FC, who won last time out.
That victory will see them in the Prize Draw, where they will have the chance to scoop big prizes, with the top award being a trip to a game in Europe.
For now, though, it’s all about the big kick off. Ballerz will be taking on Young Offenders in what is set to be the game of the day. Adam was looking forward to it too, and put the success down to the rich footballing tradition in the town saying: “Only the best is good enough, after all, for a place with three World Cup Winners hailing from it, and we are delighted to be giving people in the town the chance to star in their own way. “
