Wednesday 12th October - Cannock Round-Up

It was another superb evening of 6 a side football in the Cannock Wednesday league this week with all 40 teams in attendance for their matches across the five divisions, including new teams KFC Wimbledon and Donk II who played their first matches with us!

Ideal FC are within touching distance of taking the Premier Division title with a game to go as they shared a point a piece with Oriental Delight in a game that ended 2-2.  Exeter Gently's 9-0 hammering of Shameless 6 not only condemned their opponents to relegation but sees Exeter in with a fighting chance of taking the title if they can win their last game and Ideal are beaten.  Cat Zouma moved up to third place in an impressive campaign as they were 4-1 winners over Athletic Bilswan, whilst Mables Spartans look as though they may have beaten the drop after they were 3-1 victors over Newstead.

Division One leaders Nutmeg City continue their impressive campaign as they were comfortable 6-2 winners over Belt Road, whilst Banglasesh FC snuk into the top two at the business end of the season as they were 4-2 winners over Smokehouse, moving them above Phil My Teet who were beaten 2-1 by Strongbow in a surprise result.  Traff FC leapfrogged Coggers into fourth this week as the mid-table battle ended 4-2 to the former.

Division Two is going to the wire as any one of three can still go up, leaders (by the skin of their teeth) Cesc Pistols shared a point with Leavemyarsealona in a game that ended 1-1, whilst Limes' 3-0 win over Sevilla sees them remain in second place as a point separates the top three.  Fourth placed Duppie White techinically have a chance of going up after their 5-2 win over Wyld Stallyns, but it would take a monumental swing in goal difference for this to happen, whilst Demba 9 Ba and Baldeaux finished all square in an 8 goal game!

Limes FC 2's 6-2 thrashing of Pique Blinders sealed the Division Three title due to their unassailable goal difference, whilst Double Pogba and Koke secured second place after an impressive 3-1 win over HStikkytokky.  Premier Group pretty much secured safety barring a meltdown in the last game of the season as they edged past new boys KFC Wimbledon in a closely competed encounter, whilst the other new side Donk II strolled to a 7-2 win over Newolvabora in an excellent debut performance!

6 Men 1 Cup had got the job done a couple of weeks ago in Division Four, and its a good job they had as they slipped to a second defeat on the spin this week, losing 4-1 to Ball of Duty who are right in the promotion chase as they sit a point off second placed Fiveways who won 3-0 against Haven't Got One.  OB City climbed to a respectable fourth place in their debut season as they ground out a 1-0 win over Deportivo La Cannock, whilst it ended all square in a 6 goal thriller between Cross Bar-Celona and The Pitment, 3-3 the result.

We look forward to seeing all teams in attendance for the final matches of a fantastic campaign in the Cannock Wednesday league, as we look ahead to the new season which gets underway on Wednesday 19th October!
