Wednesday 22nd February - Cannock Round-Up

It was a good evening's football in the Cannock Wednesday 6 a side league this week which saw all teams in attendance throughout the night as scheduled across the divisions, the only exceptions being Baldeaux and Strongbow who gave a weeks notice due to half term commitments, and return on Wednesday 1st March.

The fixtures threw up a big game in the Premier Division on opening week as last season's top two came out against each other to kick off the new season, Exeter Gently and Oriental Delight sharing a point apiece in a 5-5 thriller!  Banglasesh got their season off to a flyer as they romped to an impressive 6-0 win over Ideal FC, whilst Belt Road were 5-0 winners over newly promoted Newstead.  Athletic Bilswan and Phil My Teet played another ten goal thriller in which Bilswan were eventual 6-4 winners.

Newly promoted to Division One Double Pogba and Coke had a tough opener and suffered a 7-1 defeat to Nutmeg City who were in clinical scoring form.  Fountain were another side who looked impressive on the opening week, they cruised to a 5-0 win over Mables Spartans to set their season off and running the right way.  Donk II settled into their new division well after promotion as they were 3-1 against Shameless 6, whilst Winding Wheel dug in deep to claim a 1-0 win over recently relegated Cat Zouma.

Division Two new boys Warehouse Warriors were 3-2 winners against HStikkytokky in a well competed game with the newly promoted team, whilst Traff v Demba 9 Ba and Champagne Super Rovers v Shady FC saw each have to settle for a point in 2-2 draws.

It was a similar story in Division Three as there were 2-2 draws in the games between No Name FC v Limes FC and Wyld Stallyns v 6Men1Cup.  Elsewhere Ball of Duty put in a solid performance to beat newly promoted OB City 2-0.

Four close games took place in Division Four as well where entertainment was not in short supply.  New boys Rigfix FC were 5-4 winners of another thriller to open their account in the league, beating Cannock Town United.  Fiveways also got off to a positive start as they beat recently relegated Limes 2 FC by 3 goals to 2.  Newolvabora and Wycombe Tit Village played out a 2-2 draw as both settled for a point on opening day, as did KFC Wimbledon and Haven't Got One Yet who shook hands on a goalless draw.

We thank all teams for their continued reliability and commitment towards the league which keeps the league running on time and smoothly each week too.  As ever, if you have any queries regarding the league, you can contact Shaun at Head Office on 0333 123 2340.
