Wednesday 25th January - Cannock Round-Up

It was an excellent evening's football in the Cannock Wednesday 6 a side league this week as we returned to action after the snowy conditions meant last week was cancelled.

Premier Division leaders Exeter Gently remain four points clear at the summit of the table as they romped to an impressive 7-2 victory over fourth placed Phil My Teet, keeping them four points clear of second placed Nutmeg City who themselves were big 6-1 winners over champions Ideal FC who are struggling this season sitting in fifth.  Mable's Spartans moved out of the drop zone after they were 4-2 winners over third placed Athletic Bilswan, leapfrogging Banglasesh who relinquished a 2 goal lead to lose 3-2 against Cat Zouma.

Division One leaders Oriental Delight show no let up as their eleventh straight win was a 7-1 hammering of The Winding Wheel.  Belt Road remain in second and four points clear of third place after they were 3-1 winners against Duppie White Delights, a win they needed to keep the three point gap over third placed Newstead who were 4-0 winners against Shameless 6 who remain in a relegation scrap.  Elsewhere bottom placed Limes FC won the battle of the bottom two as they edged past Traff FC by 2 goals to 1 to give themselves an outside chance of survival.

In Division Two, leaders Donk II were pushed hard this week by Champagne Super Rovers and had to settle for a point with a last gasp equaliser in a thriller of a game that ended 2-2.  That result allowed second placed Double Pogba and Koke to move within two points of the leaders after they got an impressive 4-2 win over Demba 9 Ba, whilst Baldeaux lost ground on the promotion places with a 7-0 humbling against Fountain.  Limes FC 2 picked up an impressive 4-1 win over Pique Blinders to move further clear of safety.

It remains very tight at the top of Division Three as all of the top three claimed wins this week to be separated by a single point.  Leaders Strongbow Unathletic were convincing 5-1 winners over Ball of Duty.  Second placed HStikkytokky kept up the pressure as they beat new boys Cannock Town United 5-2, whilst third placed Shady FC won a nine goal thriller 6-3 against KFC Wimbledon to remain in the hunt.  Wyld Stallyns completed the action for the division and moved two points from the drop zone as they edged a close game against 6Men1Cup by 2 goals to 1.

Division Four leaders OB City managed to keep a three point lead at the top despite a 2-1 reverse against Cross Bar-celona, as second placed No Name slipped to a 4-1 defeat against new boys Queens Park Strangers.  That result allowed Haven't Got One Yet to move into the second promotion place as they were 5-2 victors over strugglers Deportivo La Cannock which blows the promotion chase wide open.  Newolvabora look to be out of the promotion mix now with three games to play as they were beaten 3-2 by Fiveways.

After playing out their withdrawal notice, Duppie White Delights have now withdrawn from the league.  We hope to see them return in future but welcome new team UnAthletico Madrid into the league as their replacement!  We wish these good luck going into their debut game in Division One.
