Wednesday 8th February - Cannock Round-Up

It was another good evening's football in the Cannock Wednesday 6 a side league this week as the penultimate round of fixtures were played out with some excellent matches across all five divisions.

Pique Blinders have now withdrawn from the league in Division Two, we welcome new team Warehouse Warriors to the league as their replacement and wish these good luck going into their first fixture on Wednesday 15th February.

Exeter Gently wrapped up the Premier Division title this week as they comfortably swept aside second placed Nutmeg City by 4 goals without reply.  Phil My Teet remain third but had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Cat Zouma, as did fourth placed Athletic Bilswan in their meeting with Banglasesh.  Ideal FC secured safety as they ran out 5-1 winners against Mable's Spartans.

Oriental Delight look on their way to a perfect season as they have one more game to play to confirm this, their 13th win in a row saw them brush aside second placed Belt Road by a 7-1 scoreline, whilst third placed Newstead were 4-0 winners over Unathletico Madrid, meaning second play third in the final game of the season to decide who goes up.  The Winding Wheel came back from 2-1 down with only 5 minutes remaining to secure a vital 4-2 win over Limes which was a much needed result in their quest for safety as second bottom Traff FC claimed a 2-0 win over Shameless 6.

Division Two leaders Donk II have all but confirmed themselves as champions this week after coming from a goal down to beat Limes FC 2 with two late goals, running out 2-1 victors in the end, their superior goal difference means despite Double Pogba and Koke's 8-1 thrashing of Baldeaux, they will have to settle for second place for the season, the top two meet in the final week of the season in what should be an entertaining game.  Demba 9 Ba secured a point with a late equaliser against Champagne Super Rovers in a well competed game that ended 1 apiece.

In Division Three it is all to play for going into the final week, Shady FC claimed a massive win over HStikkytokky to move above them into second with a game to play, 2-1 the final score, whilst leaders Strongbow were 4-2 winners against 6 Men 1 Cup.  The top two meet in the final game in which Shady could still win the division or miss out on promotion altogether dependant on theirs and third places results.  KFC Wimbledon claimed their first point of the campaign in a well earned 2-2 draw with fourth placed Ball of Duty, whilst Wyld Stallyns secured safety for another season with a 4-1 victory against Cannock Town United.

The Division Four title race goes to the wire following second placed No Name grabbing a last minute winner to beat leaders OB City 1-0, both play the bottom two next week and the leaders will need to ensure they don't slip up to guarantee themselves the title.  Haven't Got One Yet ensured they still have an outside chance of promotion if second place slip up, as they were 1-0 winners over Cross Bar-Celona, whilst another single goal victory was for Five Ways against Deportivo La Cannock.  Queens Park Strangers romped to a 9-0 win over Newolvabora as they have proved they will be good enough for a higher division next season after joining late in the campaign.

We thank all teams for their continued reliability and commitment to the league and wish everyone good luck heading into the final week of the season, with the new campaign kicking off straight away on Wednesday 22nd February.
