Emotions High at Axminster 6 a side

Players and officials gathered in silent unison to pay their respects to one of our leagues stars who sadly passed away last week following a short illness. Alex Ives was well known to most at the Axminster Wednesday night league having played a key role in his team Chards Chopsys league title win just a couple of seasons ago. Last night his team mates, officals and opponents all took a moment to remember him before playing in their fixtures, a thing that gave Alex so much enjoyment. We all offer our condolences to Alex's family and friends at this time, the post that Leisure Leagues put out on Instagram to remember him has so far had just shy of 200 likes, people who didn't know Alex offering just a little bit of support, I think that speaks volumes for the community that we are all part of when we play in Leisure Leagues football. Well done to all the teams for getting out and playing this week, especially to Chards Chopsys who have now been renamed A.I.FC in Alex's memory, a lovely touch. Rest Well Alex & watch down on your team with pride mate x

We saw some dramatic games this week, including a couple of really tight affairs in the premier division. 2 Goals 1 Cup scraped past Champions Farmers Weekly 5 - 4 while Uplyme & Sinker drew 3 - 3 with Portsmuff. A.I.FC had a great 5 - 0 win over NYCFC with a Cam Bound hattrick doing the damage. all that leaves 2 Goals top with 4 points from A.I.FC 2nd with 3. The surprise so far this season is seeing Farmers Weekly still looking for their 1st points, they face A.I.FC next week and will be desperate to kick start their title defence.

Division One see's leaders The Roys maintain their 100% start as they won 8 - 0 against LR Dons, all 8 goals scored by Gould's James and Mike while Winsham Utd picked up their 1st win, 5 - 0 against Vikings. Memphis with 3 goals in this one. Finally there was a cracking game between Nice to Michu and 6 A Cider. Jacob netted 3 for Michu which was enough to just take the points, Nathan Newbery's hattrick in vein for 6 A Cider.

Thank you to Lance and his crew for managing an emotional night, hopefully everyone is getting their heads around the two division thing now and the season is starting to take shape. Good luck to everyone next week.

RIP Alex Ives
