All to play for at the half way point in Calne six a side

As the season reaches the half way point in the Leisure Leagues Calne Tuesday six a side from Beversbrook Sports Facility it has become clear that this is an incredibly open league with teams throughout the league capable of beating anyone on their day. Dads might be out in front for now but they will have a hell of a fight on their hands to try and stay there come the end of the season.

The night started with TMT taking on Netsix and Chill. Both teams dropped points in the previous week and so were desperate to get back to winning ways once again. It was TMT that started the brighter and they had the lion share of possession. They controlled the ball nicely and looked a threat when ever they came forward. Netsix to their credit broke well but they just were not shown enough of the ball to be able to make it count and the endless pressure they were put under eventually led to a goal. TMT had come close several times before but finely found the breakthrough half way through the second half. The second quickly followed and this was home the game ended, with TMT as deserved winners.

In the other early kick off Fitness Box, fresh from an excellent win in the previous week came up against RichTeaWellens, who are still looking to regain some of their form from previous leagues. Even though the game ended in a draw this represented a better performance for the boys in blue and they definitely go home the happier of the two teams. Their goal came courtesy of a 20 yard cross field pass from Sam Williams which landed at the feet of Luke Woodvine who hit Paul Scholes-esk volley from the edge of the box. He has shown before that when he scores they are normally worldies. Fitness for their part struggled to establish a rhythm to their passing game and captain Joe knows that if they are to climb the table they will have to play better. When they did pass the ball well they opened RichTea up and this was what led to their goal which was finished by Rory who continued his excellent goal scoring record in the league.

The late kick offs started with top V bottom as Dads took on Holo FC. At first glance many expected this to be a straight forward victory for Dads but Holo to their credit played outstandingly to limit the damage and only lose by a single goal. At times the young lads have been bullied off the ball but in this match they competed all over the park making sure that they did not give Dads any time to settle. The decisive moment came late on following a cute give and give with his team mate, captain Jamie fired home to seal a win that sees them open up a two point lead at the top of the table.

Easily the game of the night was the 8 goal thriller between Chicken Tikka Mo Salah and The Rushes. For both teams the mantra seemed to be that attack was the best form of defensive as they went about trying to score more goals than the opposition. While this made for a wildly entertaining game for the spectators it was a nervy one for both captains who played between the sticks. On multiple occasions they were left exposed facing one or ones or more. Only deep into the second half did The Rushes start to establish some form of dominance over the game. Several chances went wide, most notable from Dean. However, moments later his blushes were spared after an excellent team goal was finished by Dan. Dean then added the final nail in the coffin with what turned out to be the last kick of the game. With this result the Rushes move level on 7 points with Chicken Tikka and with every chance of taking the fight to the teams above.

Once again everyone thanks for a great evening of six a side football from the wonderful Beversbrook Sports Facility.
