The Rushes rush ahead in Calne six a side

The Calne Tuesday six a side from Beversbrook Sports Facility got underway with great anticipation this past Tuesday. Just like last season all the teams capable of beating each other on their day which makes for some excellent football matches and an unpredictable league. This is just what happened the other night and now after four games the league is hotting up nicely.

The night started with The Rushes underlining their credentials as potential league champions with a 6-0 thrashing of Holo FC. This season The Rushes have shown tremendous consistency and are now the only team with a 100% win record. They are also managing to combine excellent free flowing football going forward while also being strong and resolute at the back. This has combined to give them an excellent goal difference that in such a tight league could prove decisive.

In the other early kick off Dads Dream Team Reborn looked to try and get their season back on track with a game against FC Calne Veterans. It was probably the game of the night with momentum swinging one way and then the other as both teams pushed forward to get the winner. It was eventually Dads that came out on top with a 4-3 the decisive goal coming in the dying seconds. The win gives Dads their first win of the season. However, after finishing runners up last season they will struggle to replicate that this season after such a disappointing start. For Veterans, they stay as best of the rest behind the top three.

Next up was RichTeaWellens as they looked to make it back to back wins for the first time since they joined the league. They came up against a Netsix team who have proved that on their day they can beat anyone. Both teams have youth on their side and use their relentless energy to cover the pitch in numbers. As a result both sides largely cancelled each other out which led to a tight and cagey affair, RichTea eventually coming out on top thanks to a wonderful solo effort from Josh Graham as he ran the length of the pitch before calmly slotting home. The win sees RichTea leapfrog Netsix to go fifth in the table. With the confidence this win has given them there is a great chance that RichTea can really make a push this season to finish much higher up the table than they did last season.

The final game of the night was a tight encounter between two teams who should be up there competing for the title. TMT and Fitness Box. The game represented a chance for Fitness Box to repair the damage caused by their defeat last week by taking points of their main rival. The opening moments of the game were cagey with both teams cautious not to give anything away. There was very little to separate the two teams and eventually the game finished in a draw. The result was probably better for TMT who keep up their unbeaten record at the start of the season. They are still only one point off the top of the league and with the Rushes still to play there is plenty of time to overhaul them.
