New Season Gets Underway
After a thrilling end to last season at the end of 2021, the fixture computer threw up some interesting games to open up the new season which were played last night (Monday 10th Jan)
Notably in the Premier League we had a repeat of the final game showdown between Beverley La Coruna and The Academy. Beverley La Coruna ground out the title with a 0-0 draw in the final game of last season, but the season opener was a more entertaining affair, with the champions prevailing 3-2 to get their title defence up and running.
Maradona Kebab who pinched second place on the final day will be looking to build on their victory in the Christmas tournament by going one better and winning their first league crown this season, and they got off to the perfect start with a professional 2-0 victory over familiar opponents Little Boys Clubs. Elsewhere in the Premier League, newly promoted Have A Day Off made an immediate impact in their first ever top flight game with a 4-2 victory over previous title challengers Get The Sudocrem that will make the whole division sit up and take notice that the new boys are not just there to make up the numbers.
In Division 1, the Crystal Phallus / SD7 FC rivalry was renewed on the opening day, Phallus coming out on top with a 2-0 victory. FC Club de Futbol AFC and Sal's U12's contested a closely fought game, with Club de Futbol edging it 2-1 but perhaps the most impressive result of the evening was Expected Toulouse's 6-2 trouncing of Inter Peroni. Peroni had finished last season strongly unbeaten in six, including a 3-0 victory over last night's opponents on the final day, and have been quietly tipped to be amongst the front runners in the division this season, so all credit to Expected Toulouse for an astonishing display.
One thing is for sure, both divisions are certain to be tight again this season and doubtless there will be many twists and turns over the next 10 weeks.
