Title Race Goes Down To The Wire!

The second 2021 season reaches it's conclusion next Monday (13th December) and what has been a nip and tuck season will reach a thrilling climax with three teams going into the final day with a chance of winning the league!

Beverley La Coruna had a chance to wrap things up last night, but a 0-0 draw following a heroic rearguard action from Sal's U12's meant dropped points, and with The Academy and Maradona Kebab both winning, all three are in the hunt going to the last game.

All eyes will be on pitch 1, as Beverley La Coruna face The Academy in a straight showdown. Beverley La Coruna currently hold position, and with a 2 point lead a draw will be enough to secure their first championship. However with a goal difference only inferior by 1, any margin of victory for The Academy will be enough to see them leapfrog their opponents.

To add a curveball to the mix, Maradona Kebab have landed on their Points Match as their final game so will take a 5-0 victory regardless, taking their GD to +30, and GF to 40, meaning a single goal victory by The Academy will see Maradona Kebab take the league title on Goals Scored!!

Here's what each team need to do to clinch the league title:

For Beverley La Coruna - avoid defeat. It's as simple as that.

The Academy need to win by at least 2 goals. Victory by a single goal will see them overtake BLC, but fall short of Maradona Kebab on goals scored. UNLESS they score at least 4 goals, in which case any win will do. But a 4-3 (or bigger) scoreline seems highly unlikely in a game between teams who have only conceded a combined 13 goals in 26 games this season.

Maradona Kebab - turn up to claim the 5-0 Points Match victory and hope that The Academy win by a single goal, and score less than 4 goals.

A 3-2 win for The Academy will see us digging into the rulebook, as it will leave them and Maradona Kebab with an identical record - and in this scenario Maradona Kebab would be crowned champions based on the head to head record; they've both beaten each other but the aggregate score over the games was 5-2 to Maradona Kebab.

Things could not be any tighter and with two of the top three playing each other you couldn't hope for a better game to end the season on. It is sure to be a tense evening with everything on the line.
