Monday 11th October 2021 League Report

The Solent and University Monday 6-a-side league at Cantell School

In the opening round of matches, the referees were treated to goals galore as league newcomers ‘Bursledon United’ comfortably dismantled ‘Persi Gurdiola’ 7:2 and ‘Adam’s Under 11s’ edged out ‘Poutsoi’ 5:3 in a seesawing thriller.  ‘Men Behaving Chadli’ were held to a 2:2 draw with ‘Roger’s Mandarins’.  Secondly, we saw even more goals as ‘Madeleine Milan’ thrashed ‘AFC Fraudlands’ 12:1 in a completely one-sided mismatch, the eventual losers doing very well to break their opponent’s clean sheet.  Such was the talent on the ‘Madeleine Milan’ team, the referee even remarked that some of the players should consider semi-pro football, instead of university!

Elsewhere, ‘Mike Litswet FC’ narrowly beat ‘Tectonic Titans’ 4:3 in a very tense and competitive match, while ‘Wushi Wanderers’ produced a solid team performance to seal a 4:2 victory over ‘Spiced Rum FC’.  In the final round of games, ‘Arsene Bender’ beat ‘Punani Palace FC!’ 1:0 in the lowest scoring, yet perhaps most evenly balanced match of the night.  ‘Innocent Until Proven Gylfi’ ran out 4:1 winners versus ‘Six Offenders’, the scoreline doing the losers an injustice in terms of quality.  However, the moment of the evening must be the former’s fourth and final goal; with five minutes left, the player jinked past a few players and released a thunderbolt from 20 yards, flying straight into the top-left corner – leaving all the onlooking referees nodding with approval.
