In the world of local football, the Southend Sunday League opened its doors for the season last night and brought a slew of thrilling matches right from week 1.

The Premier League division saw some close battles as the campaign started. Steve's Specials and Big Hs 7s locked horns in a riveting match that ended in a 2-2 draw. In another tightly contested match, LL CFC squared off against Essex Regiment with the final scorecard reading 2-2. But the highlight of the division was the exhilarating showdown between EG FC and Varane Summers, where Varane Summers emerged victorious with a 3-1 win, making them the early pacesetters.

In Division 1, the season started with a bang. F.C Sparkathorn faced a tough start, succumbing to a 1-4 defeat against BigHs 2nd. Meanwhile, Mellow Yellows managed to leave their mark with a solid 2-0 victory over S.I.N.

Over in Division 2, the action was just as intense. LL CFC 2nds and EG FC 2nds shared the spoils with a 2-2 draw, while MITS Athletic narrowly lost to Sparkalona in a seven-goal thriller, finishing 3-4.

As the season has just begun, teams are still looking to find their rhythm and assert their dominance. The top scorers for each division remain unmentioned, but with the level of competition we saw in week 1, there's no doubt we are in for a treat in the coming weeks.

Stay tuned for more action in the Southend Sunday League. The journey towards glory has just started, and every team hopes to end the season on a high note.
