The much-anticipated Southend Sunday Football League hit the ground running last night as Week One of the season notched up some enthralling matches across the Premier League and Division 1.

The Premier League division saw an assortment of high-octane football with EG FC scraping a narrow victory over Shark Island Nightmares with a 2-1 scoreline. The Nightmares fought hard, showcasing their grit, but EG FC's prowess shone through, kick-starting their season on a high note.

Steve's Specials, on the other hand, delivered an absolute masterclass, thrashing LL CFC 8-1 in a one-sided contest that made their competition take note. Meanwhile, Varane Summers also commenced their campaign with a chic 3-1 victory over F.C. Sparkathorn. The night ended with Big Hs 7s besting Porters 7s 4-1.

The action was equally gripping in Division 1. Varane Summers 2nds and BigHs 2nd delivered a six-goal thriller, ending the match in a 3-3 draw. LL CFC 2nds blanked S.I.N. with a 3-0 win while Mellow Yellows dominated Sparkalona, securing a 6-2 victory.

The top scorers for the Premier League were Steve's Specials with a massive eight-goal haul, while Mellow Yellows led the charts in Division 1 with six goals. Their performances have set the tone for the rest of the teams as the season has just started.
