Athletic pile pressure on Depays in Gerard Buxton six a side

It was another excellent night of football last night in the Leisure Leagues Royal Wootton Bassett Monday six a side from Gerard Buxton Sports Ground. The league appears to be as close as ever with 6 teams in the race to be crowned champions. The surprise of the night was Depays continued poor run as they lost 2-1 against Athletic which was also undoubtedly the game of the night. The performance of the night had to be Exeter Gently, who it seems are determined to make up for narrowly losing out last season as they attempt to extend their league at the top of the table. They beat Underdogs 10-0 on Monday to cement their position.

In the first game of the night both Gangsters Allardyce and Alexandre LakofKet played a points match meaning both inherited 5-0 wins. It’s clear from previous encounters that there is no love lost between the two teams and so the word friendly has to be taken with a pinch of salt as far as these two teams are concerned. The result ensures Gangsters stay second while Alexandre LakofKet move into 5th.

Next up was the turn of new team Pique Blinders who showed once again that they are a class outfit as they took on a slightly depleted Unplayable’s side. Nevertheless, nothing should be taken away from Pique who were convincing winners. The second win in as many games has propelled them right into the title fight while the Unplayables have slipped back into the bottom half of the table.

Next up was the game of the night as Who Ate All Depays took on Athletic Bilbao Baggins. At the beginning of the game Depays would have gone down as favourites but they have been on a poor run of form recently and with Athletic being one of the fittest teams in the league the match was always going to be a classic. Athletic eventually came out on top but Depays can feel hard done by not to at least get something from the game. However, for Athletic the win propels them to third place in the league and just three points of the top of the league. For Depays however, they will have to hope that, like last season, that they come on strong in the second half of the season.

In the first of the late kick offs Norfolk continued their climb up the league as they comprehensively beat FC Guava 5-1. Since their poor start of the season they have gone on an incredible run which has seen them go from bottom of the league to 4th place. They are just four points off the top and have a great chance of winning the title in their first season.

In the final game of the night Exeter took on The Underdogs and it’s fair to say that it was the most one sided game of the night. In the past Exeter have been guilty of not being ruthless with their finishing but there was no risk of this on Monday as they took every chance they created. They know that this season represents their best chance in a long time to win the title and they are not prepared to let it slip without a fight.
