Games to close to call at Swindon Monday Six a Side

Just before kick off in game 1 between Expected Toulouse and 2 Goals 1 Cup the heavens opened. Even though every single player was drenched through to their skin the intensity and tempo of the game did not drop. 2 Goals took the lead through a clinical finish from Raisham Muhar. Teams have identified the tricky midfielder as a player they need to watch and this goal proved why they need to be careful not to give him too much time and space on the ball. To be fair to Expected though they rallied superbly and, aided by some support from Ryan Wallace and co. they were able to get back into the match. Both teams had plenty of good chances to score but a draw was probably a fair result in the end. 2 Goals remain in contention but have again lost ground to the front two while Expected continue their impressive march up the table.

MOM: Raisham Muhar

The rain relented briefly to allow an entertaining game to take place between Gangsters Allardyce and Bass Rugby. Gangsters took an early lead through vice captain and lone striker Callum Roberts with a well placed finish. It looked at this point that Gangsters would go on to win comfortable however, Callum, after his earlier success missed a handful of chances that gave Bass hope that they could sneak a surprise result. This feeling improved when Harris O'Donnell snuck in at the back post to steal a goal totally against the run of play. Captain fantastic Charlie Bradford then stepped up to put Gangsters back in front with a superbly hit strike right into the bottom corner. The game then swung on its head once again when Bass equalised for a second time after the impressive Alex Bennett got through the Gangsters defence to fire past the helpless goalkeeper. The game then looked to be heading for a draw before Kyle Brentnall scored the decisive goal of the match a few minutes from time. Gangsters will know they will need to do a better job of taking their chances if they are to beat more accomplished opposition but will be pleased to come away with a victory after last weeks disappointment.

MOM: Kyle Brentnall

Game 3 was mired by the news that Wirral Wubbish's captain Robbie Stubbs will need surgery on his torn ACL which will likely prevent him from returning to six a side action. Everyone at Leisure Leagues Swindon wishes the great man a speedy recovery and we hope to see him down at the Gerard Buxton supporting his team once it finally stops raining. In the game itself Wirral struggled to get into the game and build any momentum. Hardley on the other hand seemed to thrive in the conditions and put in arguable their most accomplished performance to date. Jack Stevens looked particularly impressive up front and broke through Wirral's back line before firing a low effort into the corner in what was his first shot of the game. The game then remained fairly even until Jamie Hall again broke the deadlock. The battle is now on to see if Hardley can finish in the top half of the table by the end of the season.

MOM: Jack Stevens

The final game was a top V bottom clash and it went the way many expected it to go. Sloblins tried valiantly to frustrate Silence as much as possible and gave it a good go but in the end were not able to match the league leaders. Dan Carey scored the goal of the night with a thunderous long range shot that hit the crossbar before bouncing just over the line. This was his second of the night after opening the scoring earlier in the game with a casual finish. Jack Hickford was the only other player to bag a brace, while the rest of the goals were shared out between George Staten, Nikky Price and Ryan Butt.

MOM: Dan Carey
