Goals Galore at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground

2 goals 1 Cup 2 V 0 Gangsters Allardyce

We started the night with a HUGE upset and raining champions and favourites for the league title were beaten soundly by newcomers 2 Goals 1 Cup. Gangsters may have been without some key players but should have still expected to come away with all the points. In the end though, it took an outstanding goal keeping display from 2 Goals keeper Will Jeary to keep them out and two poachers goals ensured they moved to the top of the table and must not be counted as favourites for the league title.

Bass Rugby Paid 6 V 1 Sloblins

Rugby players by day, six a side footballers by night. That’s the only way to describe Bass Rugby. They said when they signed up that they would show conventional footballers a thing or two and on that promise they have delivered in droves. They were totally dominant using superior fitness to employ a high press that allowed them to win the ball high up the pitch, counter with numbers and put pressure on the Sloblins defence. They were also well organised in defence and restricted Sloblins to only a handful of chances.

Expected Toulouse 0 V 1 Hardley Athletic

Match 3 was a close encounter between two evenly matched teams. Both sides had plenty of chances and in the end it could have gone either way. A controversial disallowed goal mid way through the second half added an extra level of intensity to the end of the game. A draw would have been a fair result but with second remaining Cody Dobson picked up the ball on the edge of the box and managed to sneak it past the keeper. The result throws the league wide open and now everyone must feel like they have a chance to be crowned champions.

Wirral Wubbish 0 V 1 Silence of the Lahms

The final game of the night was a scrappy affair with neither team able to keep mistakes out of their performance. Both teams failed to build any sort of momentum as a result and it was always going to come down to who ever could score the first goal. That goal came from the only really decent bit of quality in the game as Ben King and George Staten had a nice interplay just outside Wirral’s penalty box. George then took on the defender before poking the ball through the legs of the on-rushing goal keeper. Silence of the Lahms will take the win however it comes but they know they will need to play better to challenge the league leaders for the title.

MOM: George Staten

Thanks everyone for a great night. See you same time same place next Monday.
