Teams turn up the heat in Gerard Buxton six a

In what was a freezing cold night in the Leisure Leagues Royal Wootton Bassett Monday six a side from Gerard Buxton Sports Ground some teams turned up the heat while others were left with an icy feeling in their stomach. The headline was that after beating Exeter Gently, Who Ate All Depays are now just one point behind them. With the two due to meet at the end of the season, they are now in with a real chance of claiming the runners up spot. In the nights other games there were big wins for both Baileys and Gangsters Allardyce in their respective games.

The night started with Baileys showing just why they are a cut above the rest with a staggering 11-0 win against 3 Goals 1 Cup who are themselves not a bad side. However, on this occasion their was a huge gulf between the two sides with Baileys able to pass the ball into the net seemingly at will. Nothing 2 Goals did could make any difference and Baileys refused to let up the pressure even when the game was beyond any doubt.

The other early kick off was much closer. FC Guava were furious after a very dubious penalty gave the Unplayable’s an early lead. However, there was nothing dubious about the second. New striker Neil finished off what was an excellent team move. FC Guava had their chances to strike back but Kevin in goal was a match for everything Guava threw at him. The win for the Unplayable’s moves then up to 8th in the league.

In the 20:00 kick offs there were impressive performances from Gangsters Allardyce as Kyle Brentnall and Dan Berry both recorded second half hat tricks on the way to a 10-1 win. Amazingly at the break it had only been 1-0 to Gangsters after Ben had opened the scoring but after half them they turned on the after burners and the Underdogs simply could not live with their pace or physicality.

Meanwhile on the other pitch. The impressive Athletic Bilbao Baggins were putting manners on Bass Rugby. The team who have been ravaged by injuries, were able to pick apart the rugby boys with some clever passing and relentless energy. The team have impressed in their debut season and will hope to have their core squad returned for the start of the new campaign in a few weeks time.

In the first of the late kick offs The Plough were putting on arguably one of their strongest performances since joining the league. Up front Ash and Padget combined beautifully, with Ash the provider and Padget the one benefitting from all of his hard work. Fortunately for Ash he did eventually manage to get himself on the score sheet to stop Padget taking all the plaudits.

The final game saw what was arguably the performance of the night as Who Ate All Depays took on Exeter Gently. They started the night just three points behind heir opponents so victory would give them a real chance of stealing the runners up spot with four games still to play. In truth their was only one team in it with Exeter having very little in the way of clear cut chances. In fact Ryan Wallace’s only shot on goal was the one they went into his own net after a wayward clearance. Any other time the ball ended up near Depays goal it was quickly smothered by Jason in goal. At the other end the goals came from Dave who continued his good form in front of goal and Craig who is finally getting the credit he deserves after some fine performances this season.
