Wirral perform in a storm in Leisure Leagues six a side

The Gerard Buxton Sports Ground played host to a tense night of six a side as the rain fell and title aspirations were dented for Silence of the Lahms. The game of the night was reserved for the final game between league leaders Silence of the Lahms and the much improved Wirral Wubbish. Silence, despite having the majority of the possession, could not find away through Wirral’s resolute defence and then on the rare occasion Wirral were in attack they made it count. Jack Twine stepped up with a wonderfully placed shot on the half volley. With five minutes to go Silence were pushing hard but they could not find a way through and then the heavens opened making it almost impossible to see the ball let alone launch an attack on Wirral’s goal.

MOM: Jack Twine

We will have to wait until tomorrow to see if Silence’s closest challengers can take advantage on their setback as Gangsters were unable to make tonight’s fixture. Instead 2 Goals played a friendly against newcomers to the league Bilbao Baggins. A great game with the athleticism of 2 Goals coming up against the experience and dogged determination of Bilbao. A 1-1 draw seemed to be a fair result in this one and an indication that Bilbao will be a great addition to the league.

MOM: Callum Flay

Game 2 of the night was a tight affair between bottom of the table Sloblins and Bass Rugby. Sloblins for a long time looked like they were going to go on and snatch their first points but were unfortunate when a scrappy goal by Harris O’Donnell put the rugby boys in front. Before this Sloblins keeper and been doing a wonderful job of keeping Bass at bay and Harry Walduck even had chances to break away and put Sloblins ahead. Sloblins were then left frustrated when with only a few minutes left to play Josh Dunstone wandered up from centre back to put the game out of reach with a strong strike into the bottom corner.

MOM: Rory Padget

The third game was again another close affair between two closely matched sides. For the first half Expected Toulouse were able to limit the number of chances that Hardley had but in the second half it was a different matter. Hardley peppered the red’s goal and eventually one found its way into the net with the stand in keeper unable to prevent the goal being scored despite getting a leg to the ball. Expected for come back at Hardley but some poor finishing meant it was another game that Expected might have expected to get more from but unfortunately were unable to do so.

MOM: Ethan Harris
