Exeter slip up in Gerard Buxton six a side

It was a fascinating night in the Leisure Leagues Royal Wootton Bassett Monday six a side as league leaders Exeter Gently dropped points to new team Plough FC leaving the league finely poised as we move into the second half of the season.

While Bailey's Boys were smashing six past the Underdogs Exeter were under pressure from the start. With Ryan Baker still out injured Exeter were forced to field a weakened side. Nevertheless, they would still have expected to be able to have enough to see of the Plough, who were smashed 11-0 the other week by Gangsters Allardyce. However, it seems the Plough have made massive strides since then and look to be more than capable of upsetting the other being teams in the league. After the game Plough captain Josh was left ruing what might have been after a break down in communication led to their goalkeeper rolling the ball out to Ryan Wallace who took the gift to slot calmly home and at least come away from the game with a slender 1 point advantage at the top of the table.

Of the other games of the night, three were decided by just a single goal showing just how competitive this league is with great strength throughout. The Unplayables recorded a great 1-0 victory against their friendly rivals Athletic Bilbo Baggins. Captain of the Unplayable's, Justin was keen to stress after the game that Athletic, after some heavy recruitment, had gone into the game as firm favourites. Gangsters kept up their recent resurgence with a narrow victory of FC Guava who are also showing signs of improvement. Meanwhile a game that could decide the best of the rest behind the top two between 2 Goals 1 Cup and Who Ate All Depays saw Jason's team just about edge it with an exhibition in shot stopping by Depays captain between the sticks proving the decisive factor.

The final game of the night saw Bass Rugby ensure that Sloblins go into the second half of the season still pointless but nevertheless happy to have recorded two goals in an entertaining game that was end to end and saw plenty of chances created by both sides.

As we move into the second half of the season we are now in a position to start recruiting for new teams.
