What a season at Chatham Monday 5 a side

What a season is been at our Thinking Fitness venue in Chatham. We've seen 5 a side at it's best with ups and down throughout the season and an exciting final day with both divisions still in the balance.

Congratulations to Cats On Tour who needed a 2 goal win over leaders at the start of play AC Me Rollin to take the title and they did it. With the score at 2-1 going into the last 5 minutes Cats scored two late goals to win 4-1 and seal the title. It's hard on AC who have lead the division all season only to be pipped on goal difference on the final day but a top effort from both teams. In other results third place Pheasant Pluckers picked up an entertaining 6-5 win over Skinners with Golden Boot winner Mitchell Ball scoring 5 times for Pluckers. Skindogs Little Sausage defeated Workrate 10-1 to climb out of the bottom two while another end to end match saw Macs beat The General 8-6.

In Div 1 three teams were all vying for two promotion spots and the title. Scottswood knew a win against third place Crossley would do it. It wasn't going to be easy with Crossley also still in with a chance of going up however Scottswood sealed a 5-2 victory and the title with Ricky Fernandes banging a hat-trick in the process, Crossley captain Dextter Roberts did get on the scoresheet and secured the Div 1 Golden Boot. Special Olympiakos did their best against Gyfli Pleasures to claw back goal difference, however their 7-2 win was enough to take second place and promotion but they needed another 8 goals for the title which was a bridge to far in the end. Congratulations to Scottswood on the title and to Olympiakos on promotion. In other results mid table sides Woodbleak and The Sniffers both finished the season strongly with Woodbleak winning 3-1 against Dirt Washers and Sniffers defeating Get Your Scally Out 5-1.

A massive thank you to Ash for running the night so well and to all our refs, Nicola, Jake, Kelly and Noel, we couldn't do it with them. Also a big thank you to all our teams and their captains for organising them, rarely missing a week. The new season gets underway next Monday 23rd May. We are expanding the league to 3 divisions of 6 for next season with two new teams coming in. I have spoken to Ash regarding where teams should be placed so please accept the challenge of the division you've been placed in. If it's to easy you will be promoted and if you struggle you'll go down. The season will only be 10 weeks so you're not going to be stuck in a division long either way. Cheers Rich
