Three teams break away at the top of Kingsdown six a side

In what was a freezing cold night in the Leisure Leagues Swindon Monday six a side from Kingsdown School, three teams turned up the heat to break away from the rest of the pack, establishing themselves as the teams to beat this season. Obviously only one can come out on top and with two of the top three in action next week we are surely in for a titanic battle over the course of the season to see who will lift the Leisure Leagues trophy.

Arguably the performance of the night came in game 1 when Tidy Box in their lime green kit took on Swinn. The game was end to end with both teams creating plenty of the ball. However, it was Tidy Box who were able to turn the good positions they found themselves in into genuine goal scoring opportunities. They did this by being brave on he ball as they were unafraid to play killer passes forward or take on their opponent to create space. Swinn by contrast, when they found themselves in good positions struggled to make the most of these moments. Too often a promising attack would collapse after a misplaced pass. This seemed to sap their confidence and they resorted instead to playing the ball backwards or sideways. After the game the team were in high spirits believing that they already have the title in the bag. They certainly do seem like the team to beat at this early stage.

The other early kick off was another highly entertaining game with the momentum in the match constantly swinging back and forth between the two sides. Bumfica showed plenty of skill on the ball and at times Paragon struggled to live with their creativity. Unfortunately for Bumfica they just didn’t seem capable of converting their chances. Paragon on the other hand were relentless. Their energy on the counter was difficult for Bumfica to contend with. Jake and co were box to box all game and in the end that made the difference too often Bumfica were exposed at the back and this eventually led to Paragon finding the all important breakthrough that gave Paragon their second win in as many games.

The final game of the night saw Ooo Thiago Silva take on Swinn in a points match. The game was full of action and Thiago Silver were clearly keen to put out a statement despite the friendly nature of the game. Their passing game was flawless and Sal up front reminded this reporter of a young Emile Heskey. He showed great composer in front of goal to fire a powerful right footed effort beyond the reach of Swinn’s goalkeeper. His hold up play was also fantastic as he brought others into play to create change after chance. Captain Jamie was full of praise for his star man after the game. He said: ‘if we can keep Sal in form then I’m sure we will have a chance of winning the league.

To find out if this is true. Tune in next week when Ooo Thiago Silva go up against Paragon in what is sure to be a frenetic encounter.
